Little Black Dress? More Like Long Black Sarong!

by Love Shu-Shi on Mar 07, 2023

Sarongs come in all sorts of colors, designs, and lengths, but our long, black sarong still reigns queen over all the others. Why do black signature pieces retain their popularity over time though? First, we would have to go over the trend that started it all: the LBD or little black dress.

There are a few reasons why the LBD became such an iconic looks.

  1. It’s simple.

The LBD is designed to be a simple, classic little black dress with little to no adornments. The whole point of the LBD is that sometimes less is better than more. You don’t have to go big with color and style to make a statement.

  1. Black is a color that works on just about everyone.

Black is a color that works for nearly all skin tones and hair colors. Similar to how red lipstick works on pretty much everyone, black is a mutually pleasing color. If you have pale skin and dark hair, go for Anne Hathaway’s classic look of black paired with a scarlet lip. Just look at how celebrities wear black on the runway! Lupita Nyong’o wears black with metallic accents, usually silver. You will find at least one celebrity with similar coloring to your own that knows how to rock a black ensemble.

  1. It flatters most figures.

Black is slimming, and let’s face it, that’s why pretty much everyone loves it. You don’t really need more than that to like this color.

  1. It can signify power and elegance at the same time.

Black is a color that absorbs light and because of that it can feel powerful in a room full of lighter colors. Black can signify wealth, elegance, and even luxury. Meryl Streep’s character in the Devil Wears Prada is almost always seen in dark colors like black and eggplant. Audrey Hepburn is known for her black elegant dress in the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. If you want to take up space and be the center of attention, you choose black.

Now what does black and the popularity of the LBD mean for our sarongs?

The love that began with the LBD has spread from just dresses into all other realms of fashion, and it is still super popular no matter what it is. Shirts, skirts, pants, jumpsuits, coats, and yes, even sarongs, everyone likes them better in black.

And yes, we still have our black sarongs available for everyone in either standard size or plus size, whatever makes you feel most beautiful.
